AURIL
AURIL (the Association for University Research and Industry Links) whose web site can be found here, is a network of professionals dedicated to the development of partnerships between higher education and industry to support innovation and competitiveness and consists of a network of professional knowledge transfer specialists. AURIL provides a forum for debate for those involved in research and enterprise in higher education. Members are listed in the membership directory.

AURIL has prepared a “Directory of Available Technology” (which is hosted by the UK Patent Office) listing details of technologies available for licence from university members of AURIL.

UNICO
UNICO (the University Companies Association), whose web site can be found here, is the organisation for technology transfer companies (and the technology transfer staff) of universities.

The Russell Group
The Russell Group, whose web site can be found here is a group of research intensive universities. The objective of the Russell Group is “to promote the interests of Universities in which teaching and learning are undertaken within a culture of research excellence, and to identify and disseminate new thinking and ideas about the organisation and management of such institutions”.

There are currently 19 universities which are members of the Russell Group: University of Birmingham; University of Bristol; University of Cambridge; Cardiff University; University of Edinburgh; University of Glasgow; University of Leeds; University of Liverpool; University of Manchester; University of Newcastle upon Tyne; University of Nottingham; University of Oxford; University of Sheffield; University of Southampton; University of Warwick; Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine; King's College London; London School of Economics & Political Science; and University College London.

Universities UK (formerly the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals (CVCP) whose web site is here. Their “vision, mission and goals 2004-2007” can be read here.

Managing Intellectual Property - A guide to strategic decision-making in universities

A guide published in March 2002 which “is concerned with the strategic aspects of managing Intellectual Property (IP) within universities and other higher education institutions. It provides guidance on issues relating to IP and how universities might address these in their strategic plans and policies ... The importance of operational and technical issues is fully recognised, but other guides addressing these issues already exist. This Guide focuses on IP arising from research and its exploitation through its sale and licensing, including the establishment of spin-out companies.”

The guide is provided on the UK Patent Office site here, in the form of several pdf files or can be downloaded as one large (2.5 Mbytes) file.
