History

Anderson & Company was formed in 1994, by Mark Anderson. Mark had previously spent seven years in the intellectual property and commercial departments of Bristows, a specialist firm of intellectual property lawyers based in London, where he advised a wide range of commercial clients from smaller, high-tech companies to multinational corporations.

Before joining Bristows, he worked as an in-house lawyer to British Maritime Technology Limited, a recently privatised Government research establishment that had been part of the National Physical Laboratory. He qualified as a barrister in 1983, and re-qualified as a solicitor in 1990.

Initially, Anderson & Company consisted of one full-time lawyer (Mark) and one part-timer, Lionel Jermy, a barrister who specialises in tax law (including employee share option schemes) and contentious business law matters.

In 1998, they were joined by Victor Warner, then a trainee solicitor, who had previously worked in the computer and printing industries. Victor qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and works full-time for the firm.

In 2000, Simon Keevey joined the firm on a full-time basis, after spending a couple of years as a barrister in private practice. Simon has a first degree in biology and a masters degree in law and was seconded on a part-time basis to Imperial College Innovations Limited, where he worked as in-house lawyer and company secretary. He left in September 2005, after five and a half years with Anderson & Company, and subsequently joined Blake Lapthorn Linnell in Oxford.

In September 2002, Julie Hutson joined the firm, as a trainee solicitor, having previously been a lecturer at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School. Julie qualified as a solicitor in October 2004 and works full-time for the firm.

In September 2005, Paul Maclennan joined Anderson & Company a trainee solicitor. He has a degree in computing and law, and has experience of working in the computer industry in both programming and customer liaison roles.

Further legal support is provided by Sara Barnard a solicitor who qualified in 1986 and worked as an in-house legal adviser to RioTinto plc for about 10 years. Her main areas of specialisation are environmental and commercial law. Sara has a masters degree in environmental law from the University of London. She now works part-time for Anderson & Company.
